The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has released the Teacher
Recruitment Examination 4.0 (TRE-4.0) notification under Advertisement No. 14/2026, inviting online applications for 32,388 School Teacher posts under the
Education Department, Government of Bihar. Fee payment and online applications begin 1 September 2026, with the application window closing on 30 September 2026.
BPSC has officially released Advertisement No. 14/2026 on 18 August 2026 for the fourth phase of the School Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4.0), inviting eligible Indian candidates to apply for 32,388 School Teacher posts across four school levels under the Education Department, Bihar. BPSC TRE-4.0 Eligibility 2026
Basic Eligibility
- Candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Candidate must hold the educational and training qualification prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for the relevant school level, as detailed in the official notification. For special school teacher posts, qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is required.

Teachers appointed and working before 2012 who have passed the Dakshata Pariksha (competency exam) are exempted from the TET requirement. Candidates who hold the required educational qualification and are appearing in the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET, 2026) may also apply, but must pass STET 2026 before the Preliminary Examination; the admit card for the Preliminary Examination will not be issued if STET 2026 is not cleared.
Qualification Snapshot by School Level
- Primary (1–5): Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, OR Senior Secondary with 4-year B.El.Ed., OR Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, OR Graduation/Senior Secondary with two-year D.Ed. (Special Education), as per NCTE norms.
- Middle (6–8): Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, OR Graduation/Post-Graduation with B.Ed., OR 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed., with the requisite subject combination for Language, Math & Science, or Social Science teachers as specified in the notification.
- Secondary (9–10): Graduation/Post-Graduation in the relevant subject group with minimum 50% marks and B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution.
- Higher Secondary (11–12): Post-Graduation in the relevant subject (as per the subject-combination table in the notification) with minimum 50% marks and B.Ed., or equivalent qualification recognised by NCTE.
Important: The exact subject-wise postgraduate/graduate combinations, computer science qualification pathways, physical education pathways, and language-subject provisions for Urdu/Bangla/Sanskrit/Madrasa Board qualifications are extensive and vary by post - candidates must verify their specific eligibility against Sections 2(A) to 2(R) of the official notification before applying.

Note: Divyang (PwD) candidates get 10 years' age relaxation; ex-servicemen get 3 years plus actual service period, provided actual age does not exceed 57 years on the date of application. Serving Bihar government employees get 5 years' relaxation, capped at a maximum of 5 competitive-exam attempts under this relaxation. Panchayati Raj/Nagar Nikay institution teachers have relaxed age limits. Superannuation age is 60 years.

BPSC TRE-4.0 Selection Process
Selection is made in two stages - a Preliminary Examination and a Main Examination. There is no interview.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
- Objective-type General Studies paper; all questions carry equal (1) marks.
- Duration: 2 hours; Total marks: 150.
- Each question offers 5 options (A, B, C, D, E); candidates must mark one option. Option (E) must be chosen if the candidate does not wish to attempt the question.
- Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer, and 1/3 mark deducted for any question left unanswered without selecting option (E).
- Covers general science, current national and international events, Indian history and Bihar's history, general geography, Bihar's geographical features, India's polity and economy, the freedom movement and Bihar's contribution, and general mental ability.
- Minimum qualifying marks: General category 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST/women/Divyang candidates 32% (with an additional 4% horizontal relaxation for women, subject to a minimum of 32%, applicable only to Bihar domicile candidates).
- Number of candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination will be 2.5 to 10 times the total advertised vacancies, category-wise, based on merit.

- Objective (MCQ) type, duration 2 hours for each paper; each question carries 1 mark.
- Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong or unanswered question (same 5-option format as the Preliminary Exam).
- Language paper (Part I) is qualifying only, with a minimum of 30% required; it does not count towards merit.
- Same category-wise minimum qualifying marks apply as in the Preliminary Examination (General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST/women/Divyang 32%).
- Merit is prepared from Main Exam marks - Part II only for Primary (1–5); Part II + Part III combined for all other levels. There is no re-evaluation.
How to Apply for BPSC TRE-4.0 Recruitment 2026
- Visit the official BPSC OTR portal bpsconline.bihar.gov.in.
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) via the "New User Registration" button using a valid, active email ID and mobile number (mandatory for all BPSC exams).
- After OTR, sign in to DigiLocker's Meri Pehchan portal (create a new account if you don't have one) and give consent to link your documents with the application, or proceed directly to the online application via the browser back option.
- Log in at bpsconline.bihar.gov.in/candidate/login and complete your profile in six steps: Personal Information, Address Information, Other Information, Qualification Information, Experience Information, and Photo/Signature Upload.
- Upload a live webcam photograph and scanned signatures in both Hindi and English.
- Review all entries, tick the declaration checkbox, and click "Submit and Lock Profile" (profile details cannot be edited after locking, except by unlocking before final submission).
- Go to the "New Application" tab, select this advertisement (No. 14/2026), choose your post/subject and up to 38 preferred districts in order of priority.
- Pay the applicable fee online (SBI Payment Gateway) and confirm payment.
- Click "Proceed to Application" and then "Submit Application" to finalise your form.
- Download and print the confirmed Application Form from the "My Account" tab for future reference.

- Transgender identity proof certificate issued by the competent authority, where applicable
- Guest teacher experience and appointment certificates issued by the District Education Officer, where weightage is claimed

- 4 recent passport-size photographs
- Printed copy of the submitted Preliminary/Main exam application and e-Admit Card
Important Conditions
- Candidates can apply for a maximum of 38 districts, listed in order of preference; the merit list and posting will follow district priority against category-wise availability.
- A candidate may take part in this recruitment examination a maximum of 5 times, as per the Bihar Vidyalaya Adhyapak (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action & Service Conditions) Amendment Rules, 2024.
- Reservation benefits are applicable only to candidates who are original/domiciled residents of Bihar.
- Candidates must select only one subject - the one in which they have qualified the relevant Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET/BTET/STET).
- Reserved-category candidates applying against unreserved posts will not receive reserved-category age or qualifying-mark relaxations.
- There is no provision for re-evaluation of the objective-type Main Examination.
- Merely submitting the online application does not guarantee candidature; final eligibility will be decided based on documents furnished by the candidate.
- Provisional merit lists will be verified by the Education Department against submitted documents; the merit list may be revised based on this verification.
- No supplementary result will be published after the provisional result is declared.
- The Commission reserves the right to modify, postpone or cancel the recruitment process.
