Indian Army TGC-145 Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
- Shortlisting of Applications: The Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications based on the vacancy-to-call-up ratio for each engineering stream, without assigning any reason. A cut-off is applied in each stream on the cumulative percentage of marks obtained up to the final semester/year. Percentages given by the college/university after applying their own CGPA-to-percentage formula are considered final; a candidate whose converted percentage falls below the cut-off should not report for SSB even if shortlisted as per the marks entered in the application.
- Allotment of Selection Centre and Dates: After shortlisting, candidates must log in to the website and select their SSB dates and centres, available on a first-come, first-served basis. The SSB centre and date, once selected, cannot be changed later, except that the Directorate General of Recruiting reserves the right to change a selected centre/date due to any exceptional circumstance.
- Conduct of SSB: Only shortlisted eligible candidates are called to one of the Selection Centres — Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab). The Call Up Letter is issued only through the candidate's registered email ID and SMS. Candidates go through a two-stage selection process; those who clear Stage-1 proceed to Stage-2, and those who fail Stage-1 are returned the same day. The SSB interview lasts a maximum of five days. Candidates recommended after Stage-2 undergo a medical examination.
- Joining Pre-Commission Training Academy (PCTA): Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit are issued a Joining Letter for training, in order of merit, subject to the number of vacancies available and meeting all eligibility criteria.
Medical Examination
Candidates should check www.joinindianarmy.nic.in for the medical standards and procedures applicable to Officer Entry. The SSB medical examination is valid for 270 days, i.e. from the Special Medical Board (SMB) to the PCTA joining date. A candidate who has already undergone SSB medical examination (SMB/AMB/RMB) for the Army and been declared "Medically Fit" need not undergo it again for TGC-145, provided the gap between the medical (SMB) date and the course joining date (01 July 2027) is less than 270 days. Candidates already training in any Army PCTA need not undergo a fresh medical for TGC-145, even if this gap exceeds 270 days. Medical Board proceedings are confidential and are not divulged to anyone; the Directorate General of Recruiting has no role in any Medical Board.
Merit List
Qualifying at the SSB interview does not by itself confirm final selection. The merit list is prepared stream/subject-wise on the marks obtained at the SSB interview. If candidates have equal SSB marks, the older candidate (by age) ranks higher. If SSB marks and age are both equal, the candidate with a higher percentage of marks in the qualifying degree is ranked higher; higher educational qualifications or previous performance play no role. Candidates within the merit list, within the stream-wise vacancies, and declared medically fit are issued Joining Letters for pre-commission training at IMA Dehradun, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria. If a candidate fails to report within 7 days of the reporting date in the Joining Letter, without the concerned Academy Adjutant's prior permission, the candidature is cancelled and a joining letter is issued to the next candidate in merit.
Type of Commission, Seniority and Training
- Grant of Commission: Selected candidates are granted a Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant, from the date of course commencement or the date of reporting at IMA Dehradun, whichever is later.
- Permanent Commission: On successful completion of training, cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lieutenant.
- Ante Date Seniority: Engineering Graduates of TGC entry are granted one year of ante-date seniority from the date of commission, in the rank of Lieutenant, for seniority, promotion and pay increment purposes.
- Induction in IMA: Selected candidates are detailed for training at IMA Dehradun according to their position in the final order of merit (stream-wise), up to the number of available vacancies. Duration of training is about 12 months.
- Marriage During Training: Candidates are not allowed to marry during training, nor to live with parents/guardians. A candidate who marries during training is discharged and is liable to refund all government expenditure on him; a candidate who marries after applying (even if successful in the SSB and medical) is not inducted for training, and the candidature is cancelled.
- Cost of Training: Training at IMA Dehradun is at government expense. If an Officer Cadet is withdrawn from the Academy for reasons other than medical grounds or reasons beyond his control, he is liable to refund the cost of training at Rs. 20,481.96 per week (tentative; actual cost calculated at the time of withdrawal/resignation), as per MoD letter No. 16(1)/2017-D(GS.II) dated 15 March 2022, with an annual increment of 8%. The cost of training borne by the State is recovered from candidates withdrawing for personal reasons.
- Allocation of Arms/Services: The final allocation of Arms/Services is made prior to the Officer Cadets' passing out from IMA, at the sole discretion of the Integrated HQ of the Ministry of Defence (Army). No representation on this allocation is entertained.
