MP Police Constable (GD) Recruitment 2026 Overview

The Madhya Pradesh Karmachari Chayan Mandal (MPESB), Bhopal - commonly known as the MP Employees Selection Board - conducts the online written examination for direct recruitment to Constable (GD) posts in the Madhya Pradesh Police under the Home (Police) Department. • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
• As per government orders, an applicant with more than 2 living children, where one child was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible for appointment (with an exception if one child is living and 2 or more children are born in a subsequent single delivery).
• All required certificates (age and age relaxation proof, education, Home Guard/Ex-servicemen proof, and, where applicable, a Certificate of Identity for transgender persons issued by the District Magistrate) must be held by the candidate as on 6 October 2026 and produced at the time of document verification during the physical test.
• Persons with disabilities are exempt from applying to the Police Department, as per Home (Police) Department circular No. एफ-2(अ)/541/92/ब(4)/दो dated 4 April 1995.
• The Police Department, and not MPESB, verifies candidates' certificates during the recruitment process; eligibility in the computer-based online exam is therefore provisional until document verification.
• All applicants must have live registration at a Madhya Pradesh State Employment Office.
• Candidates who are not permanent domicile residents of Madhya Pradesh may apply only under the Unreserved (Open) category and are not eligible for any reservation or age relaxation benefit; their maximum age as on 6 October 2026 must not exceed 33 years.

MP Police Constable (GD) Reservation Details

As per the Madhya Pradesh Public Service (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994, vertical reservation applicable to the advertised posts is: Unreserved (UR) 27%, Other Backward Class (OBC) 27%, Scheduled Caste (SC) 16%, Scheduled Tribe (ST) 20%, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 10%. Horizontal reservation includes: Women 35% (counted only against posts where women can be appointed, i.e. not applicable to the Special Armed Force cadre), Ex-servicemen 10%, and Home Guard soldiers 15% (applicable only to the Constable (GD) cadre recruitment, as per Home Department memo No. 556/128/96/ब-2/दो dated 31 January 1996).

These age relaxations and reservations apply only in reference to Madhya Pradesh domicile; applicants from other states are eligible only under the conditions prescribed for the Unreserved category, as stated in the notification.

MP Police Constable (GD) Age Relaxation

• Vikram Puraskar (Vikram Award) awardees, Madhya Pradesh domicile: up to 5 years' relaxation in maximum age.
• Inter-caste marriage couples recognised under the SC/ST/OBC Welfare Department's Inter-caste Marriage Incentive Scheme: up to 5 years' relaxation for the higher-caste spouse, subject to producing the marriage registration and caste certificates before the application submission date.
• Ex-servicemen: the actual period of earlier defence service is deducted from age, provided the resulting age does not exceed the maximum age limit by more than 3 years.
• Retrenched government employees: up to a maximum of 7 years' relaxation for prior temporary service, provided the resulting age does not exceed the maximum age limit by more than 3 years, and provided the application is made within 3 years of retrenchment.
• Where a candidate has more than one basis for age relaxation, only the single basis giving the maximum benefit will be applied; incentive-based relaxations are in addition to general relaxations.
• Nagar Sainik (Home Guard) volunteers and non-commissioned officers must have completed 3 years of active service in these posts as on 6 October 2026; those removed for indiscipline, misconduct, unfitness, or desertion are not eligible for this category or its age relaxation.
• No age relaxation is available to serving or former employees of the Central Government or other State Governments beyond what is expressly provided in these rules; similarly, contract/honorary workers such as Shiksha Karmi or Panchayat Karmi are not eligible for age relaxation.

MP Police Constable (GD) Salary

As per Madhya Pradesh General Administration Department circular dated 12 December 2019, selected candidates will draw a stipend of 70% of the minimum pay in the first year, 80% in the second year, and 90% in the third year, in addition to other allowances and perquisites sanctioned by the government from time to time. A Defined Contribution Pension Scheme (NPS) applies to employees appointed on or after 1 January 2005.

MP Police Constable (GD) Application Fee

Fee can be paid via credit card, debit card, or net banking when applying directly online, or in cash through an authorised MP Online kiosk. There is no examination fee for candidates applying against backlog vacancies under direct recruitment, as stated in the notification.

MP Police Constable (GD) Selection Process

Selection is conducted in two stages:

1. Stage 1 – Written Online Examination (conducted by MPESB): An objective-type (MCQ) computer-based exam in Hindi/English, of 100 marks and 2 hours' duration, with 100 questions. One mark is awarded for each correct answer; there is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions. The paper covers: General Knowledge & Reasoning (40 marks), Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude (30 marks), and Science & Simple Arithmetic (30 marks), at a difficulty level equivalent to Class 8 of the MP Secondary Education Board.
2. Stage 2 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Document Verification (conducted by the Police Department): Based on the written exam cut-off percentile for each vertical category, candidates numbering up to 7 times the advertised vacancies in that category are called for the PET. The PET consists of an 800-metre race, long jump, and shot put, carrying a maximum of 100 marks (40 for the race, 30 each for long jump and shot put). Candidates must score a minimum of 30% (30 out of 100) in the PET to qualify. The shot put weight is 7.26 kg for men and 4.00 kg for women. One attempt is given for the 800m race, and three attempts each for long jump and shot put. Relaxed physical standards apply for Home Guard and Ex-servicemen candidates. The complete PET scoring charts (marks corresponding to each timing/distance) are published in the official notification.

The final merit list is prepared by combining the written exam score (normalised using MPESB's prescribed Normalised Equi-Percentile/T-score methodology, since the exam is held in multiple shifts) with the PET marks, for candidates who meet the minimum qualifying PET marks. Document/certificate verification of all original certificates is mandatory at the PET stage; a candidate found ineligible at this stage will not be selected even if successful in both the written exam and PET.

Where the chest measurement exceeds the minimum, an expansion of at least 5 cm is mandatory. No relaxation is given in physical measurement standards at any stage. Medical standards checked by the District Medical Board include height, chest expansion (male candidates), visual acuity (not less than 6/9 in the better eye and 6/12 in the other eye without glasses, with normal colour vision), and the absence of knock-knee, flat feet, or any physical deformity.

Candidates must apply online at www.mponline.gov.in between 22 September 2026 and 6 October 2026 (till 11:59 PM on the last date), either directly through the internet or through an authorised MP Online kiosk. The broad process is as follows:

1. Go to the "Citizen Services" section on the MP Online homepage, click "Application," and select the ESB link for Constable (GD) recruitment; carefully read the Instructions and Examination Rules provided.
2. Fill in all requested personal, educational, and other details in the online application form; no field can be left blank.
3. Select your cadre preference - Constable (SAF) or Constable excluding SAF - and your district/unit preference from the list of Madhya Pradesh districts and units (58 units, including 3 Government Railway Police units), along with 4 preferred examination cities.
4. Upload a scanned colour photograph (recent, white background, face and both ears clearly visible), signature, and a handwritten sample of 2 lines including the prescribed self-declaration text, in the specified format.
5. Enter your Aadhaar number/Aadhaar VID, which will be used for biometric verification before the exam and for the selected candidates' biometric data shared with the Police Department.

MP Police Constable (GD) Important Instructions

• Aadhaar registration is mandatory for all candidates, and biometric verification (with Aadhaar unlocked) is compulsory both at the time of exam entry and during the exam.
• An original photo identity document (Voter ID, PAN card, Aadhaar card, Driving Licence, or Passport) must be carried to the exam centre; an e-Aadhaar printout is valid only if UIDAI-verified.
• Candidates will only be permitted entry to the exam centre up to the reporting time; late arrivals will not be allowed to enter.
• Electronic devices such as mobile phones, calculators, log tables, digital watches, sunglasses, and unfair-means material are strictly prohibited inside the exam hall.
• A black ball-point pen and the admit card downloaded from the MPESB website are mandatory items to carry to the exam hall; admit cards are not sent by post.
• No candidate is permitted to leave the exam room before the exam concludes, once it has started.
• Candidate certificates are not verified by MPESB at the application stage; eligibility for the computer-based online exam is entirely provisional and subject to verification by the concerned department during the recruitment process.
• All candidates must have live registration at a Madhya Pradesh Employment Office for these posts.
• There is no provision for recounting or re-evaluation of the exam result once declared.
• Selected candidates will be appointed on 3 years' probation and must undergo mandatory training with no provision for exemption; candidates unsuccessful in training get one further opportunity to clear it.
• Selected candidates will not be posted in their home district and must complete a minimum of 5 years' service in their allotted unit before becoming eligible for transfer.
• A waiting list of 15% of the advertised posts will be prepared, valid for one year or until the next exam result is declared, whichever is earlier.
• Character verification will be conducted as per the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in Mehar Singh vs. Commissioner of Police.
• Any candidate who conceals facts or gives false information in the character verification form will be declared ineligible for the service, even after appointment.
